Autograph letter signed : Athens, Alabama, to Stark Young, 1933 May 8.

Thanking Young for articles he has sent, writing of his southern ancestry and pride (which he has in common with Young), declining to comment on the Scottsboro Case on which he is a presiding judge, and pleading for a greater understanding of racial problems by both northerners and southerners. He remarks on the deep racial prejudices of his people.
